Positive first outing for Oliveira and Brazil WRT

In their maiden event together Brazilian driver Daniel Oliveira and the Brazil World Rally Team broke into the international rally arena by doing a great job in the Rally de Portugal, third round of the World Rally Championship (WRC).Despite having only tested the MINI John Cooper Works S2000 for the first time ten days ago and only for some kilometres, Oliveira exhibited a good adjustment to the WRC scenery and to his new car, which confirmed the great potential showed in the pre-season test.

Unfortunately, after four days of competition and more than 385,37 kilometres of tough stages, Oliveira's MINI stopped within the last stage of race with a broken suspension, 13 kilometres from the finishing line. Daniel couldn't fulfil his aim of finishing his first event in the WRC. However, the general outcome was highly positive for him and the team.

During the whole weekend Daniel showed his ability by making a series of top-15 fastest times and keeping the car on the road. Today on the first three stages Oliveira once again recorded some good splits.

The next event for Daniel Oliveira and his Portuguese navigator Carlos Magalhaes is the Rally of Jordan, to be celebrated on April 14-16. It will be the second outing for the crew in the S2000 version before getting in the MINI John Cooper Works WRC.

"It's a shame we couldn't make it in the final kilometres. We cut to earlier a bend on SS17 and we broke the suspension. However, I feel really happy since we gained a lot of experience which was our main objective here in Portugal. It was an incredible weekend for me and the team. We made a great job together".

"Personally, I could improve my pace over the kilometres and I spent much time in the car which was good enough to grips with the handling. I want to thanks all members of the team, my navigator Carlos Magalhaes and all the people surrounding me".

Another great day of action for Daniel Oliveira

Brazil World Rally team driver Daniel Oliveira alongside his Portuguese navigator Carlos Magalhaes succeeded in completing another day of competition on the Rally de Portugal, third round of the World Rally Championship.

Daniel stuck to his plan of keeping the MINI John Cooper Works S2000 on the road, finishing the day, and taking the most of his first experience in the WRC. However, he is making important improvements on his pace, and today was quick enough to record some good splits.

Despite suffering from some minor mechanical issues on the first section of the race and a puncture on SS10, Daniel managed to hold his fourth position among the S2000-spec cars while being 23º in the overall classification.

Heading for the last day of competition Daniel and Carlos will tackle tomorrow the last four stages which include two runs through the 31, 04-kilometre Santana da Serra stage, the longest one. The first car will hit the road at 7:34 (local time).

Oliveira made his way through leg one in Portugal.

Brazil World Rally Team driver Daniel Oliveira completed a tough first leg of the Rally de Portugal, third round of the World Rally Championship (WRC), taking an important step forward in his WRC maiden event.Oliveira had a smooth starting and over the kilometres he began feeling more confident with his driving. He improved considerable his pace on the second and third stages until his MINI John Cooper Works S2000 hit some problems.

On SS4 a bearing of the universal joint got loose causing some friction and forcing Daniel to slow down to lose some valuable time. On other stages it was detected a minor electrical issue in the fuel pump.

The Brazilian representative dropped down to 28th still he managed to climb several positions to finished 21th overall and claiming also the fourth place among the S2000-spec cars.

For tomorrow are scheduled six special stages, starting the first car on the road the SS 8, Almodovar, at 10:17. In total the crews will tackle the longest of the three legs with 148.10 of competitive kilometres.

Daniel arranco el rally de Portugal

A Brazil World Rally Team começou a andar no Rali de Portugal, terceira etapa do Campeonato Mundial de Rali (WRC), e primeira corrida oficial para a dinâmica equipe no certame ecumênico da especialidade. A bordo do MINI John Cooper Works S2000 a tripulação integrada pelo piloto brasileiro, Daniel Oliveira, e seu navegador português, Carlos Magalhães, completou esta tarde o Super Especial de 3.27 quilômetros, disputado pelas ruas de Lisboa, prova inaugural da competição e única do dia.

Daniel Oliveira registrou um tempo de 3m.11,4s. e assegurou a 6ª posição na classe S2000, a 13,8s do líder, o português Armindo Araujo. Com relação à classificação geral, Daniel se posicionou no 34º posto, a 21,8s. do ganhador Mikko Hirvonen (Ford).

Uma vez finalizada a prova especial, a organização, equipes e pilotos regressaram outra vez ao epicentro da etapa, em Faro, localizado no Sul de Portugal, na região de Algarves, a uns 300 quilômetros de distância. A competição continuará amanhã, com a PE 2, a partir das 9:05 da manhã. No total, os pilotos disputaram seis especiais e 132,41 quilômetros sobre estradas de terra.

“Desfrutei muito do Super Especial, já que havia muita gente fanática pelo rali, alentando aos pilotos nas ruas. Realizamos uma passada sem erros e, por sorte, não houve nenhum inconveniente. Tivemos precaução, já que o asfalto estava um pouco escorregadio e havia uma parte do circuito por ruas com paralelepípedos. Este tipo de provas são mais um show para os fãs, e há muito mais para perder que para ganhar. A prova é muito longa e o verdadeiro rali começa amanhã. Vamos ver o que vai acontecer. Oliveira quiere aprovechar al máximo el shakedown en Portugal

Daniel Oliveira prevé que el shakedown del Vodafone Rallye de Portugal le permita seguir adaptándose al MINI John Cooper Works Super 2000, que pilotará por primera vez en el campeonato del mundo de rallyes ésta semana.El piloto de 25 probó por primera vez con su equipo MINI Brazil World Rally sobre tierra durante una pequeña prueba que se realizó el lunes. Oliveira espera ahora aprovechar al máximo el shakedown del Vale de Judeu, que tendrá lugar a las 14.30 hora local, para adaptarse al vehículo a lo largo de los 5.03 kilómetros de la carrera sobre tierra.

Después de la prueba del lunes, el debutante comentó que: “A pesar de ser una sesión corta, la experiencia fue suficiente para lograr el buen pilotaje del choche y me siento muy satisfecho por el trabajo realizado. El choche es ágil y fácil de pilotar. El shakedown nos permitirá conocer más el coche y progresar antes del comienzo del rallye. Esperamos realizar una carrera impecable y sin percances.

El test de Oliveira del lunes tuvo lugar en la frontera con España, a 40 kilómetros de la base del rallye en Faro. Acompañado por su copiloto portugués Carlos Magalhaes, Oliveira completó varias pasadas al volante del coche preparado por Prodrive.

Oliveira regresó a Portugal después del test el lunes por la noche para empezar con los preparativos de los reconocimientos de la carrera, previsto para finalizar poco después del mediodía de hoy. Sin embargo, no será la primeva vez que Oliveira y Magalhaes completan juntos unos reconocimientos después de ya haberlos realizado a principios de éste mes en el Rallye Guanajuato Méjico.

Oliveira añadió: “Competir en el WRC es algo diferente y un proyecto totalmente increíble. Estoy muy agradecido por la oportunidad que se me ha dado. El equipo Brazil World Rally está a punto de dar su primer paso en el campeonato y todos queremos realizar una buena primera salida.”

Daniel aposta na cautela e conclui segundo dia de competição na Ilha da Madeira

Piloto adotou uma estratégia conservadora nesta sexta-feira, mas está confiante em melhorar o desempenho no último dia de prova

A segunda prova portuguesa do calendário do IRC (Intercontinental Rally Challenge), que acontece na Ilha da Madeira, em Portugal, está sendo uma das mais difíceis da temporada 2010, avalia o piloto soteropolitano Daniel Oliveira (GDK/LMP/GDK Angola/LEFT São Paulo/INDEX), da equipe Stohl Racing. O Rally do Vinho Madeira 2010 é válido pela oitava etapa da competição.

Nesta sexta-feira (06), o piloto - que é o primeiro brasileiro a direcionar a carreira para os ralis de velocidade europeus - adotou uma estratégia conservadora, visando poupar o carro para as últimas especiais deste sábado (07). Oliveira concluiu o segundo dia de competição na 19ª posição, que contou com um total de 12 trechos cronometrados, mas está confiante de que pode melhorar a sua classificação. No primeiro dia de provas, nesta quinta-feira (05), foi disputada apenas uma especial. "Hoje foi um dia muito bom. Mantivemos um ritmo mais tranqüilo, visando apenas concluir a etapa e poupar o carro. Amanhã é o dia de acelerar", afirmou o piloto da Stohl Racing, que corre com um Peugeot 207 da categoria S2000, ao lado do navegador espanhol Carlos Del Bairro. De acordo com Daniel, que participa pela terceira vez de um rali com piso predominantemente de asfalto no IRC, o nível de dificuldade da prova é alto.

"Tem algumas semelhanças com a prova das Canárias (na Espanha, que sediou a quarta etapa da competição), que foi disputada no mesmo tipo de terreno, mas é mais sinuosa e com muitas variações. Mas o acerto do carro está bom e sei que amanhã podemos brigar para melhorar a nossa classificação final", afirmou. Neste sábado, acontecem as últimas oito especiais, de um total de 21. O piloto soteropolitano terá mais 115.16 quilômetros de desafios. A programação tem início às 2h40, com previsão de término às 14h (horário de Brasília).

Madeira finish the priority for Oliveira

The island event marks the Brazilian’s third ever start on asphalt and after failing to finish on his last IRC appearance in Belgium in June Oliveira is anxious to build his experience by completing all of the rally’s 21 special stages.

“It’s a very technical rally, not easy at all to learn,” said Oliveira. “Because of this I look only to finish and not for my position. This is a rally where you need a lot of experience to do well and I’m sure the guys who know the roads will do much better than me.”

Although he’s been absent from the IRC since Ypres, Oliveira has kept himself busy by contesting Rally Tucumán, a national championship event in Argentina, where he finished eighth overall in a Subaru Impreza WRX.

While Oliveira’s experience in Madeira is non-existent, his team boss Manfred Stohl, has competed on the island on two occasions in the past as a driver and will offer his young charge plenty of advice during the course of the event.

Oliveira’s plans for a pre-event test in Madeira on Monday had to be cancelled due to the late arrival of the boat carrying Oliveira’s Peugeot 207 S2000.

Daniel Olivera regresa a Portugal en busca de mas Experiencias

Oitava etapa do campeonato acontece em estradas sinuosas de asfalto na Ilha da Madeira

A oitava das 12 etapas do IRC (Intercontinental Rally Challenge) acontece neste final de semana na Ilha da Madeira, em Portugal, dando sequência à passagem da categoria em terras portuguesas - a última etapa aconteceu em Açores, no mês de julho.

O piloto Daniel Oliveira (GDK/Stöhl Racing), primeiro brasileiro a direcionar a carreira para os ralis de velocidade europeus, fará seu terceiro rali com piso predominantemente de asfalto nesta temporada. "Vai ser bem parecido com o Rali das Canárias. O piso de asfalto também é bastante desafiador, com o diferencial de que aqui em Portugal os trechos serão mais sinuosos", destacou o piloto, que corre com um Peugeot 207 da categoria S2000, ao lado do navegador espanhol Carlos Del Bairro. A programação será aberta nesta quinta-feira (5), às 5 horas (de Brasília), com o shakedown, treino que serve para a verificação de todos os sistemas do carro, seguido pela disputa da primeira das 21 especiais. Durante os três dias de competição, os carros percorrerão um total de 298,2 quilômetros.

"É um lugar montanhoso e um trajeto com mais curvas fechadas, muita altitude, muito sobe e desce. Somado ao calor que está fazendo aqui em Portugal, deverá ser um rali bastante duro com as duplas", afirmou o piloto de Salvador (BA), que acaba de se recuperar de uma forte gripe. "Já estou bem, e agora vamos usar o primeiro dia para acertar todos os detalhes, focar no desempenho do carro para completar bem o rali", disse.
